Two tyre quotes can look comparable while covering different work. For South African motorists shopping this weekend, the useful figure is the total for the specified tyres and agreed services, with exclusions made clear before the booking.
Local retailer information illustrates why wording matters. Supa Quick’s FAQ describes fitment as free when tyres are bought from it, while listing balancing and alignment as separate service questions. Tiger Wheel & Tyre’s terms for its February–March 2026 sale included VAT and fitting but excluded balancing and alignment. That campaign has ended; its terms are an example, not a current offer.
Start with an exact product
Ask the fitter to confirm the appropriate specification for the vehicle, then have the quote identify the brand, model, size, load and speed rating, quantity and any required special construction or approval. If one shop proposes an alternative, ask what has changed and why it is suitable. A matching diameter alone does not make two products equivalent.
Request the complete job price
Ask which charges cover fitting, balancing, valves or tyre-pressure-monitoring components, disposal and any alignment work. Where a service is conditional on inspection, request its price and agree that additional work needs approval. Confirm VAT, stock availability and how long the quote remains valid.
This is a comparison checklist, not a statement that every item must be replaced or every service performed at each tyre purchase. The workshop should explain what the vehicle actually requires.
Keep the after-sales terms
Request the applicable warranty or road-hazard terms in writing. Check the claim procedure, exclusions and costs the customer would still pay. Keep the invoice and product details so a later query can be traced to the fitted tyres.
For dealers, a clear quote makes the value of the complete service visible. For motorists, it reduces the risk of choosing on an advertised unit price and discovering that the final job covers something different.
