SA Auto Week takes place in Durban from 13–16 October 2026, bringing automotive businesses and policymakers together for discussions on investment, industrial development and the energy transition. The Durban ICC confirms it is hosting the event.
The organiser’s programme lists Transformation Day on 13 October and the Africa Auto Indaba and exhibition on 14–15 October. For South Africa’s tyre value chain, the meeting offers an opportunity to ask how wider automotive plans will translate into practical supplier opportunities.
1. Where can local suppliers participate?
Announcements deserve scrutiny beyond their headline investment values. Tyre businesses should look for details of procurement requirements, implementation dates and opportunities for local manufacturing and services. A conference commitment is not yet a purchase order or a completed factory expansion.
2. What will changing vehicle technology require?
As the vehicle mix evolves, tyre manufacturers, distributors and fitment centres need clear specifications and training information. The useful questions concern which models will reach local buyers, their approved fitments and what support will be available to service them.
3. How will progress be measured?
For any proposed investment or skills programme, named delivery partners, funding arrangements and milestones will help distinguish an ambition from a project that is moving ahead. Employment figures should identify whether they describe existing jobs, construction work or planned permanent positions.
These are SATreads’ suggested questions for the event, not claims that new tyre investments have already been agreed. Any subsequent tyre-sector announcements will need their own verification.
