Redisa has released an announcement that it will cease collections from 1 June 2017, due to lack of funding.

Government has changed the Redisa funding model and has implemented a Tyre Levy that has been collected by SARS since 1 February. Redisa claims it is not receiving the necessary funding and will no longer collect waste tyres from registered collection points, including micro collections. Redisa depots will remain open but will not be accepting any deliveries and that deliveries to processors will continue until scheduled until further notice.

Company spokesman said: "Redisa is taking every step to secure the funding necessary to reinstate its collections. To this end we have notified the Department of Environmental Affairs of the environmental and business ramifications of ceasing collections. We are engaging with the Department to secure the required allocation which would allow Redisa to resume collections."

Concerned industry members are being urged to contact the Waste Management Bureau at the Department of Environmental Affairs for further information on legally disposing of waste tyres at This email address is being protected from spambots.
