EC starts anti-dumping probe against new & retreaded tyre imports from China

The European Commission has commenced an anti-dumping probe concerning imports of new and retreaded truck and bus tyres from China.

The probe follows a complaint lodged on June 30 by the "coalition against unfair tyre imports" on behalf of producers representing more than 45 percent of European Union production of these tyre types.

The investigation can take up to 15 months to complete, will cover the period from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017, as well as market trends dating from Jan. 1, 2014.

The EC finds information provided by the complainant indicates significant dumping margins on Chinese-made tyres and that imports had increased both in terms of volumes and market share.

The Commission's statement also added, the imports resulted in "substantial adverse effects" on the overall performance and employment across the EU tire industry.

Given the potentially large number of exporters involved in this proceeding, the Commission said it might limit its investigation to a sample number of Chinese tyre producers.

China is concerned about the European Union's anti-dumping probe against its tyre products and claimed there is no sufficient evidence that Chinese exporters are dumping truck and bus tyres onto the EU market and hurting EU industries.
